"Can you shut the door behind you?" installation at Bard College (2018). This project conceptualizes a parallel between the basement and the subconscious. The installation halts the cyclical functions of these two spaces. Like the basement, the space is a reflection of things we've abandoned. We can tuck things away, but can't sort through or throw them out. It's a facade of order. Like the subconscious, this space is both logical and illogical, constructed and organic, stable and fragile. It presents comforting and familiar forms, but it works in an unfamiliar system; outlets and pipes leading to unknown places, and rubber crates too weak to support themselves. These sculptures compose this complex system, but they are also the reason it is decaying.
